American Symbol Art

The first graders have learned so much about America's famous and favorite symbols. I would believe that any first grader at Crest View Elementary would know more details about America's symbols that most adult educated Americans. Learning About Day of the Dead

As part of our study of Mexico, we learned about the Day of the Dead celebration. We decorated sugar skulls.


The Boulder Firefighters Came to Visit.



They taught the first graders some very important fire safety information.

Seed Saving in the Garden

We visited the Crest View gardens to collect seeds. It was very interesting to see what seeds were hiding in the dried flowers of the plants.

Garden Visit on the First Day of Autumn

We took a visit to the Crest View garden on the first day of Fall to see what is still happening out there. We saw lots of things still growing and blooming! In their science notebooks, the class sketched things they saw. It was a lovely afternoon to be outside in our garden classroom!

Zucchini Bread in the Solar Oven

We made yummy zucchini bread and baked it in the Crest View solar oven. The temperature got up to 250 degrees by the afternoon.

Learning about the Daily 5

Today the class practiced "Read To Self" as part of the Daily 5 independent literacy time. They were able to read quietly to themselves for 10 minutes. We are building stamina to be able to read for 20 minutes! They were amazing, quiet readers!

Growing Gardens Visit

Today a teacher from Growing Gardens came and taught the class about plants and what parts of plants are edible. The class tasted all different kinds of plant parts. It was a yummy lesson!

Flat Stanley is returning from His Adventures!

Flat Stanley has visited some amazing places already. He has been to New York City and Irvington, New York on the Hudson River. He visited Washington, D.C. during the Cherry Blossom festival time. He went to Huntsville, Alabama to the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center and the U.S. Army's Redstone Arsenal. That Flat Stanley really gets around!

Our New Student

We have a new student in our class. Her name is Laureline and she has moved here with her family from Luxembourg. She speaks French and Dutch. Welcome!!

Our Letter Arrived From President Obama

After very patient waiting, we received our package from the White House containing lots of goodies from President Obama. He wrote the class a very nice letter. He sent photos of himself, his family and the two pet dogs. There were a few other interesting things to read, including a special thank you note to Mrs. Vance for being such a good teacher. We were so excited to read all the contents.

Welcome Sofia

We have a new addition to our class. Her name is Sofia and we are excited to have her join us.





The Plants are Growing!

In just 3 days we had sprouts in the Brassica and grasses! Exciting!
They have grown even more by today.
